Plan your legacy. It’s easier than you think.

We all leave a legacy behind. You likely want yours to benefit the people you love and the causes you care about most. Including a bequest to SeedChange in your will is one way to do both. Plus, it’s financially advantageous: a charitable tax receipt can lower or even eliminate estate taxes.

Including a legacy gift in your will is simple. To set up your legacy gift, contact your lawyer and ask them to create a new will or add a codicil (amendment) to your existing will. You can either determine your gift as a percentage (residual) of your estate, or as a specific amount. Learn about and get sample wording for each way of leaving a legacy gift, below.

How do I leave a residual gift in my will to SeedChange?

Leaving a residual gift allows you to assign to SeedChange a specific percentage of what is left of your property once your estate has paid out all specific gifts and covered all expenses. Giving as little as one per cent of your residual can make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of small-scale farmers around the globe.

Here is sample wording you can use to plan a residual gift:

“I give to SeedChange (Charity Registration Number 11927-6129-RR-0001), currently located at 56 Sparks Street, Suite 600, Ottawa, Ontario, ______ (%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

How do I leave a specific donation in my will to SeedChange?

A specific gift is just what it sounds like: a way for you to set aside a specific sum of money to be donated to SeedChange, where it will be used to support family farmers around the world.

Here is wording you can use to plan a specific gift:

“I give to SeedChange (Charity Registration Number 11927-6129-RR-0001), currently located at 56 Sparks Street, Suite 600, Ottawa, Ontario, the sum of $ ____ to be used in support of its general charitable purposes.”
