“Not only have I gained a lot of knowledge, but I’ve also become much more emancipated as a housewife.”

Maria Traoré is a 33 year old farmer in Mali. Since she started working with SeedChange four years ago, she’s learned onion seed saving skills and shifted her peanut growing practices to be more sustainable. These sustainable practices have boosted her yields and the onion seeds bring in added income.

“Now everything has changed for the better,” Maria says. She’s now able to cover her household’s expenses – which includes raising her four kids. “I’ve changed a lot because of this project. Not only have I gained a lot of knowledge, but I’ve also become much more emancipated as a housewife.”

Growing peanuts sustainably is going really well. But she still has challenges she’s working on fixing: onion storage and water shortage. We’re proud to work with Maria as she tackles these issues and continues to shift the way food is grown in her community!
